RCMP in Red Deer used police dogs to track down and arrest one suspect after two masked men armed with a machete and pepper spray robbed a convenience store early Tuesday morning.

Police were called just before 8 a.m. after the suspects demanded cash and cigarettes from a clerk at the Running On Empty store on Kent Street and then fled, Mounties said in a release.

RCMP officers and the K-9 unit tracked the suspects through the Kentwood neighbourhood and a nearby industrial park, catching one of them within 20 minutes.

A 19-year-old man was arrested and taken into custody.

Police are still searching for the second suspect, RCMP said.

No one was injured in the robbery.
