Iranians vote to elect MPs, panel tasked with selecting supreme leader

People across the country cast ballots to select members of the legislature and the Assembly of Experts.

Voters in Iran have headed to the polls to select the members of the country’s 290-seat legislature amid mounting economic hardship.
While anti-establishment candidates are not expected to win many seats, a low voter turnout in the first polls since 2022 nationwide protests could indicate extensive discontent.
Iranians also cast ballots to pick the members of the Assembly of Experts, a key body tasked with selecting the country’s supreme leader.
The 88-member body is exclusively made up of Islamic scholars.
