Two youths dead after car crash in Maple Ridge, B.C.

A young man and a young woman were killed in an early morning head-on crash between a van and a car in Maple Ridge, B.C. Four other youths are in hospital.

Police and school officials arrange for counselling

A young man and a young woman were killedin an early morning head-on crash between a van and a car in Maple Ridge, B.C.

RCMP Sgt. Dale Somerville said that three young men were travelling in a green Dodge van and three young women weretravelling in ablue Honda car.

The van and car hit each otherhead-onnear the intersection of Dewdney Trunk Road and Dunbar Street at around 2:25 a.m. PT Sunday.

"The driver of the van, and a passenger in the Honda have been pronounced dead," Somerville said in a pressrelease.

"The other four people remain in hospital with serious injuries."

Police have notreleased the names or ages of the deceased pending notification of next-of-kin, but did say that they were attendingschools within School District 42, which spans Maple Ridge and Pitt Meadows.

Somerville said the Ridge Meadows RCMPs youth resource officers would be working with the school district to ensure counselling is available to other students.

"To lose two young local people is devastating,"he said.

Police are asking anyone with information on the crash to come forward.
