Susan Musgrave: rewarded for a life of writing

"As they say in the vernacular, it's amazeballs to have won." Those are the words of author, poet and editor Susan Musgrave, who last night won the Matt Cohen Award - In Celebration of a Writing Life. Musgrave published her first book of poetry when she was just 18 years old. She's published more than 40 books since 1970....

Those are the words of author, poet and editor Susan Musgrave, who last night won the Matt Cohen Award - In Celebration of a Writing Life. Musgrave published her first book of poetry when she was just 18 years old. She's published more than 40 books since 1970.
Musgrave says she loves words, and "amazeballs" is a new word she learned from a writer at a recent workshop.

She says it was emotional winning an award named for her late friend, Matt Cohen.

"Some people stay with you after they die and some you have to try and recall, and Matt is one of those people who ghosts around in my life."

Musgrave jokes that when you win a lifetime achievement award they know you haven't got long to live. But she assures Carol that she plans to keep on writing for a long time to come.

Musgrave is currently working on a book about food to be titled "A Taste of Haida Gwaii: Foraging and Feasting at the Edge of the World."
