Trans-Canada Highway crash in Chilliwack kills 1

One person is dead after a 2014 Mazda 5 left the Trans-Canada Highway and struck a tree near Bridal Falls early Friday morning, according to Chilliwack RCMP.

One person is dead after a 2014 Mazda 5 left the Trans-Canada Highway and struck a tree near Bridal Falls, early Friday morning, according toRCMP in Chilliwack, B.C.

Police saidit happened in the eastbound lane, with the driver leaving the highway on the left side, just before 4 a.m. PT.

Sgt. Paul Kent said no other vehicles were involved, and there were no passengers in the vehicle.

The identity of the driver won't be released until the victim's family has been notified, he said.

Kent said alcohol hasn't been ruled out as a factor in the crash, and the RCMP's collision team is investigating.
