Gun play of 2 brothers ends in death at Grande Cache, Alta., home

A boy has died after the firearm he and his brother were playing with accidentally was fired at the family home near Grande Cache, Alta.

Mayor calls shooting 'very sad, very tragic'

A boy has died after the firearm he and his brother were playing with accidentallywas fired at the familyhomenear Grande Cache, Alta.

RCMPSgt.JoseeValquetteconfirmed Tuesday the shooting involved two brothers.

Family members told CBC News that the boy who died was10, and his brother was younger.

A cousinwho asked to be identified as Jolenesaid the family "is holding up. We have a big huge family and we're all pulling together."

Jolene said the boy will be laid to rest on Thursday. Sheaddedthe family did not want photos of the boys to be made public.

Grande Cache Mayor Herb Castle called the shooting"very sad, very tragic." He said he heard the boys were apparently playing with a firearm that nobody knew was loaded.

RCMP were called to a rural home outside the townat about 10:45 a.m. Monday MT after someone reported thedischarge of a firearm.

No one under age 11 can be charged criminally in Canada, so any charges would have to be againstadults in the home.

Jolene said the family has been told that no charges will be laid. But RCMP said the investigation is continuingand no decision has been made.
