He lent his voice, along with hairy feet, to one of the most successful movies franchises of all time. He will be in the city this weekend to appear at the Saskatoon Comic and Entertainment Expo.

Scottish actor Billy Boyd played Frodo Baggin's cousin, Peregrin "Pippin" Took,in the epic film trilogy the Lord of the Rings.

He said he enjoys meeting fans at these type of events.

"They've become a real celebration of pop culture," Boyd told Leisha Grebinski, in an interview today on CBC Radio's Saskatoon Morning.

"They are much bigger and much more joyful, much more like a sort of Disneyland for geeks."

Boyd's story is an interesting one. At one time, he worked as a book binder. At that time he helped put together the Lord of the Rings, and another book called Master and Commander. Boyd went on to act in both movies.

Saskatoon's Comic & Entertainment Expo will be held on September 19th and 20th.

Boyd rejects creative labels

Boyd, however, is no one hit wonder. In fact, he soundly rejects the idea that creative people should be assigned titles like actor, artist or musician.

"I don't think there should be these lines to creativity. You make something and you put it out there and you hope people like it," he told Grebinski.

Boyd himself is more than an actor. He also makes music with his band Beecake. The band is traveling with him to Saskatoon and they will play a special comicexpo after-party gig at Louis' Pub at the University of Saskatchewan on Saturday night.

"We are playing ourfirst Canadian shows in Saskatoon, so I'm really excited about that."
