Kevin Lamoureux captures Winnipeg North for Liberals

Liberal Kevin Lamoureux says he is "overwhelmed and humbled" to have been elected in the Winnipeg North riding.

With all 162 polls reporting, Lamoureuxscored 68.9 per cent of the vote, followed by Harpreet Turka of the Conservatives with 15.3 per cent.

"I'm just overwhelmed and humbled by the type of support demonstrated this evening with the vote that we received,"Lamoureux told supporters.

"It's an exciting time in the sense that we have is a brand-new shiny prime minister,Justin Trudeau. I think Canadians are going to be very happy about him. He's an individual that is incredible, inspirational. At the end of the day, I know he's going to get right down to work."

Lamoureux added,"For 10 years, we've seen a government that's based on wedge issues that likesto divide Canadians. Mr.Trudeau sees Canada as a rich, diverse country that has so much hope going into the future and he wants to deliver on that."

Rounding out the pack were Levy Abad of the NDP with 13.4 per cent of the vote and John Redekopp of the Green Party with 2.4 per cent.

• Harpreet Turka, Conservative Party.

In 2011, Lamoureux ran against the NDP's Rebecca Blaikie, Conservative Ann Matejicka, the Green Party's John Harvie and the Communist party's Frank Komarniski.

Lamoureux won by only 44 votes, taking 35.78 per cent of the vote, while Blaikie took 35.6 per cent of the vote.
