ATV driver thrown from machine, dies

A 28-year-old man died Sunday after being thrown from his ATV when he hit a dirt berm in a field.

A 28-year-old man died Sunday after being thrown from his ATV when he hit a dirt berm in a field.

RCMP from the Pierceland detachment said the accident happened around 3:30 p.m. CST on the Big Island Lake Cree Territory, a First Nations community about 375 kilometres northwest of Saskatoon.

According to RCMP, the ATV (an all-terrain vehicle sometimes also referred to as a quad or four-wheeler) was being operated in a field when the driver struck a dirt bermand was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision, RCMP said.

The man, from the Big Island Lake Cree Territory, died at the scene. No name was released. RCMP said they were continuing to investigate.
