City of Montreal officials want to hear your thoughts about what La Fontaine Park should look like 20 years from now.

Public consultations onthe future of the 34-hectare park, situated in the PlateauMont-Royal borough, kick off Tuesday.

"This is intended to build, in collaboration with stakeholders, a shared vision of the future of LaFontainePark, which is both an oasis in the heart of the city, a strong symbol of identity and a major park in a network of great parks in Montreal," said Ral Mnard, Montreal's executive committee member in charge of sustainable development, the environment and large parks and green spaces.

"We wish to give voice to citizens about the future of this place that is dear to them, and invite them to participate in numerous public workshops. This important step will help to define precise guidelines on development and animation for the next twenty years," Mnard said in a statement.

Today's information session will take place at Espace La Fontaine, a chalet-restaurant by the water in the park.

People can also participate online at realisonsmtl.ca/parclafontaine.

The public consultations and workshops will be held throughout the summer, on the following dates:

  • April 26: information session on how the process works and on the themes to be discussed.
  • May 10: a vision workshop for community organizations.
  • May 16 and May 18: a vision workshop for citizens.
  • June 6: a vision workshop for citizens and community groups.
  • August 31: a public assembly to present the conclusions.

A final report is expected to be submitted to the City of Montreal by the end of September.
