Islanders have been lining up at the Canadian Red Cross office in Charlottetown eager to make donations to help those affected by the wildfire raging through Fort McMurray, Alta.

"Yesterday on a few occasions we had people lined up past the door, so we are certainly seeing a really strong response from Islanders as always," said Laura Johnson-Montigny, director of the Canadian Red Cross on P.E.I.

"I think there is some really close connections with Alberta here on P.E.I. So we are really feeling that. You know (they are saying) I have an uncle, I have a brother, I have cousins there, I worked there for 10 years. There really is that personal connection again and wanting to do anything they can to help."

She says donations can be made at the Red Cross office on Paramount Drive or online at www.redcross.ca.

She also notes people who want to donate $5 can text 30333, and those wanting to donate $10 can text 45678.
