Taxi drivers protest as they await news of Uber injunction request

Dozens of taxi drivers are protesting outside the Montreal courthouse today as they wait for a judgement on their bid to suspend Uber's activities in Quebec.

Dozens oftaxi drivers are protesting outside the Montreal courthouse todayas they wait for a judgement on their bid tosuspend Uber'sactivities in Quebec.

The ride-hailing serviceand the Quebec government reached an agreement in early September thatallows the company to continue operating in the province during a one-year pilot project.

A coalition of taxi industry representatives filed an injunction against Uber last week.That was filedafter the industrylost a bid to have an injunction applied against Uber's deal with the government.

Marc-AntoineCloutier, a lawyer for the taxi industry, argued in Superior Court todaythatUberdoes not have the necessary permits to operate in Quebec.

He also argued that because the pilot project has yet to takeeffect,Ubershouldn't be allowed to continue operating.

Ajudgement is expected to come down onTuesday.
