They were too generous, too willing to give. Goshko's wife Giizhaate, and his step-children, also claimed a mythical lineage, deriving ancestry from mitigo-naabe a tree-spirit. It was in their nature to give, even to give portions of their body. If it hadn't been for the unique ability to partially subsist on light, Bagonegiizhig suspected they wouldn't have survived.
It wasn't good for her to be near them. A Wiindigo's daughter. Though her uncle tried to keep this knowledge from her, he couldn't keep it a secret. The circumstances of her birth. She was Wiindigo. It was what the people called her, in whispers, just below the range of hearing.
