Rosanna Deerchild, Gary Barwin and Humble The Poet named 2017 CBC Poetry Prize jury

The 2017 CBC Poetry Prize is now closed. The winner will receive $6,000 and a 10-day writing residency, and will have their work published in Air Canada enRoute magazine.

Rosanna Deerchild, Gary Barwin and Humble The Poet comprise the jury for the 2017 CBC Poetry Prize.

Rosanna Deerchild is the host of CBC Radio's Unreserved. Her most recent poetry collection, Calling Down the Sky, is a finalist for the Pat Lowther Memorial Award. Her first book, this is a small northern town, won the 2009 Aqua Books Lansdowne Prize for Poetry.

Gary Barwin is a writer, composer, musician and multidisciplinary artist. His novel Yiddish for Pirates was a finalist for the 2016 Scotiabank Giller Prize and was shortlisted for the 2016 Governor General's Literary Award for fiction. Barwin's latest collection of poetry is called No TV for Woodpeckers.

Kanwer Singh, a.k.a. Humble The Poet, is an author, MC and spoken-word artist. In 2008 he began releasing tracks and videos on YouTube and since then has toured internationally.Singh recently defended Fifteen Dogs by Andr Alexis to a win during Canada Reads 2017.

The 2016 CBC Poetry Prize winner was Michael Fraser for "African Canadian in Union Blue."
