2 American men arrested after climbing the Lions Gate Bridge
High-angle rescue team sent to apprehend climbers amidst lane closures and traffic chaos
Two men from Washington Statehave been arrested after they climbed the Lions Gate Bridge seeking some sort of photo opportunity, according to police.
At 8:30 a.m. PT police began receiving 911 calls after a man wearing a headlampand large backpackwas seen going over the railing and climbing 20 metres up the guy-wires above the bridge deck.
A high-angle rescue team was sent in and the men were discovered after a search of the two bridge towers.
Traffic was heavily congested on the bridge for two hours during the police operation.
Shortly after 1 p.m. all lanes were back open and TransLink said regular bus service over the bridge has resumed.
Police say both men are in their 20s. They were taken in custody and had their camera equipment seized. Charges have yet to be announced.
