Here are the candidates running in Cardigan

This riding represents pretty well all of Kings County, stretching from Tracadie Bay and Scotchfortto East Point, from Souris down to Murray Harbour. Point Prim, Stratford and everywhere in between.

Liberals have held Cardigan for over 30 years the last non-Liberal MP was Pat Binns in the '80s

This riding represents almostall of Kings County, stretching from Tracadie Bay and Scotchfortto East Point, from Souris down to Murray Harbour. Point Prim, Stratford and everywhere in between.

Liberal MPLawrence MacAulay has held this riding for the Liberals for 31 years with it's last non-Liberal MP being Pat Binns back in the mid-'80s.

Five candidates are running in this ridingand they're listedalphabetically byfirst name.

Christene Squires, Christian Heritage Party

Squires is currently involved with the non-profit group Voice of the Martyrs Canada as well as Assisting Indigenous Missions. (Christian Heritage Party)

Christene Squires was born in Baie Verte, N.L., and is running in Cardigan for the second time. Shetaught English in South Korea for several years before finally settling on P.E.I.

She's currently involved with the non-profit group Voice of the Martyrs Canada as well asAssisting Indigenous Missions and the P.E.I. Association for Newcomers to Canada.

Glen Beaton, Green Party

Glen Beaton has been involved with Stratford Rotary, the local Lions Club and volunteered with the Pownal rink sports program. (Submitted by Wade Beaton)

Glen Beaton is the mayor of the rural municipality of Alexandra and is father to Michele Beaton, the provincial MLA for Mermaid-Stratford.

Beatonhaslived in the riding his entire life and is a former school teacher and director of parks and highway safety for the province. He's also been involved with Stratford Rotary, the localLions Club and volunteered with the Pownalrink sports program.

Lawrence MacAulay, Liberal Party

St Peter's Bay native Lawrence MacAulay won his ninth consecutive election in 2015 and is currently the minister of veterans affairs and associate minister of national defence.

He's served many roles in parliament over the decades, including solicitor general of Canada,minister of labour among others. Prior to politics, MacAulaywas a farmer and a businessman.

Lynne Thiele, New Democratic Party

Lynne Thieleis a social activist andretired teacher whorecently ran for the provincial NDPin Stratford-Keppoch. Sherepresents Kings County for the provincial NDP executive.

Thiele has also worked with the Council of Canadians and haswritten articles and letters to the editor inIsland papers. She's currently writing a book onEsther Lowden, the founder of the Haviland Club in Charlottetown.

Wayne Phelan, Conservative Party

Phelan opened a Canadian pub in Oita, Japan, before returning to P.E.I. to open an internet business. (Conservative Party of Canada)

Wayne Phelan, of Stratford,is running for political office for the first time. He's fluent in English, French and Japanese and worked as a translator in Japan.

He also opened a Canadian pub in Oita, Japanbefore returning to P.E.I. to open an internet business andlater, a home security business.
