Liberal Chandra Arya returns in Nepean

Liberal Chandra Aryawill again represent the suburban Ottawa riding of Nepeanin Parliament.

LiberalChandra Aryawill again represent the suburban Ottawa riding of Nepeanin Parliament.

Arya, formerly with Invest Ottawa, had 45.7 per of the vote after 98.7 per cent of ballots had been counted.

"Hard work always pays off," he said following his victory Monday night."People of Nepeanrecognize hard work. I'm so glad about that and I'll continue to work hard."

Arya said the Liberals were handed a strong minority, but will collaborate with other parties.

Chandra Arya, who was re-elected in Nepean on Monday, says the new Liberal minority will necessitate more "formal" consultation with other parties when it comes to legislation.

Arya'sclosest competitor was Conservative Brian St. Louisat 33.3 per cent and the NDP candidateZaff Ansarihad 13.1 per cent of the vote.

"It isdisappointing, but that's the way things happen," said Ken St. Louis, the candidate's father. "Sometimes you can do everything right and it doesn't work out, and that's life."

Also on the ballot were Green Party presidentJean-Luc Cooke, Azim Hooda of the People's Party; whoworked in public affairs for amineral development company that makescleaner batteries; and University of Ottawa politics and economics studentDustan Wang of the Communist Party of Canada.
