Ottawa South re-elects Liberal David McGuinty

CBC News projects Liberal David McGuinty will return to the House of Commons after being re-elected in Ottawa South.

Consistently Liberal riding remains in the party's fold

Liberal David McGuinty will return to the House of Commons after being re-elected in Ottawa South.

Ottawa South has voted Liberal in every election since it was created in 1988 and as of 1:18 a.m. Tuesday, McGuinty had 52.3 per cent of the ballots cast with roughly 91 per cent of the vote counted.Conservative Eli Tanniswas second with 24.6 per cent of the vote and NDP candidateMorgan Gayhad 16.1 per cent.

This race also pittedMcGuinty against IndependentAhmed Bouragba; Rodrigo Bolanos of the People's Party; union negotiator and Alta Vista Community Association executive for the NDP; IndependentSarmad Laith; Green Party candidateLes Schram, who also ran under their banner in last year's provincial election;, who helped run his family's food distribution company and its foundation; and Larry Wasslenof the Communist Party of Canada.
