33 writers make the 2021 CBC Short Story Prize longlist

The winner will receive $6,000, attend a two-week writing residency and have their work published on CBC Books. The shortlist will be revealed on April 22, 2021.

Thirty-threewriters from across Canada have been longlisted for the 2021 CBC Short Story Prize.

The complete longlist is:

The longlist was selected from almost 3,000English-language submissions.

A team of writers and editors from across Canadacompiled the list. The jury then selects the shortlist and the eventual winner from the readers' longlisted selections.

The 2021 jury is comprised of Souvankham Thammavongsa, Craig Davidson and Lee Maracle. They will select the shortlist and the winner.

The shortlist will be announced on April 22 and the winner will be announced on April 29.

The winner of the 2021CBC Short Story Prizewill receive $6,000 from theCanada Council for the Arts, have their work published onCBC Booksand will have the opportunity to attend a two-week writing residency at theBanff Centre for Arts and Creativity.

Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from theCanada Council for the Artsand have their work published onCBC Books.

Last year'swinner was Calgary writer Brenda Damenfor her short story,Gibson.You canread the entire shortlist here.

TheCBC Literary Prizeshave been recognizing Canadian writers since 1979. Past winners includeMichael Ondaatje,Carol Shields,Michael WinterandFrances Itani.

The 2021CBC Poetry Prizeis open for submissions until May 31, 2021.

The 2022CBC Short Story Prizewill open in September and the2022CBC Nonfiction Prizewill open inJanuary.
