What does Canada owe Afghanistan?

As civilians attempt to flee a Taliban-held Afghanistan, Canadian veteran Ryerson Maybee reflects on our countrys historic role there, and what our governments responsibilities should be to the Afghans who risked their lives to help Canadians during the war.

As the U.S. withdraws the last of its troops from Afghanistan, the 20-year war appears to many observers to be ending as it started: With the Taliban in control.

Many Afghans especially those who helped Canadianand other NATO forces are now desperately trying to flee the country. Some of the soldiers who served in the war are asking if the two decades of bloodshed were worth it.

Today on Front Burner, we speak to retired Canadian Army captain Ryerson Maybee about the chaos we're seeing unfold in Afghanistan, and what he thinks this country's responsibilities should be to the Afghans who risked their lives to help Canadians.
