Body found at Langley building explosion not victim of homicide: police

Investigators have determined that a body found at the scene of an explosion in Langley, B.C., was not a murder victim.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team saidin a statement that police came to the conclusion along with the B.C. Coroners Service, although it didn't explain why.

Mounties and firefighters responded to the explosion at aresidence in the 24300-block of 8 Avenue in the Fraser Valley municipality on Sunday afternoon after reports of an explosion.

Police said they found an "outbuilding" on fire, which was put out by the local fire department, and human remains were subsequently found.

The homicide team was called to the scene as a result.

The investigation is being transitioned back to Langley Mounties now that a homicide has been ruled out.

The statement says the RCMP will continue its work to determine what caused the explosion.
