2 teens injured in Langley apartment explosion

Two teenagers mixing chemicals in a Langley, B.C., apartment were injured in an explosion that prompted the evacuation of the building Monday afternoon, police said.

Langley RCMP spokesman Peter Thiessen said none of the injuries are life-threatening although oneteen may have lost two fingers. "There wasa couple of 17-year-old boys mixing a variety of chemicals for unknown reasons," Thiessen told CBC News.

"They sustained some injuries, one may have lost a couple of fingers by the sounds of it."

The chemical explosion happened at around 3:20 p.m. at 20250 56th Ave., Thiessen said.

Langley firefighters, emergency services and RCMP officers were on the scene and the building was quickly evacuated.

Tenants won't be allowed back in until investigators have determined what chemicalshad beenused, Thiessen said.

Damage to the building appears to be confined to the single suite, police said.
