When Gordon Lightfoot met Alex Trebek on CBC-TV

Two Canadian stars appeared on the same episode of CBC-TV's Music Hop in 1963: Gordon Lightfoot and Alex Trebek.

Future Jeopardy! host asked 'folksinging guest' if he'd record his own songs at some point

It's early in their respectivecareers, butCBC-TVviewers were seeing two future stars on their screens in the fall of 1963.

One was AlexTrebek, the future and eventual record-setting host of Jeopardy!, who was then hostingMusic Hop.

His "folksinging guest" was introduced as GordieLightfoot who most people would get to know betteras GordonLightfoot, the acclaimed Canadian singer and songwriter.

"Gord, how do you feel about how the folk songs are booming these days?"Trebekaskedhim.

"It's very good, Al," Lightfoot replied. "There certainly is a lot of work around for folk singers."

At the end of their brief chat, Trebekinquiredas to whetherLightfootwill start issuing recordings ofhis own, original material.

"Definitely, yes," Lightfoot said..

"I hope they turn out real well for you," said Trebek.
