30 writers make the 2018 CBC Nonfiction Prize longlist

The winner will receive $6,000, attend a writing residency and have their story published on CBC Books. The shortlist will be revealed on Sept. 12, 2018.

SEPT. 12, 2018: The 2018 shortlist has been revealed.

Thirty writers have made the longlist forthe 2018CBC Nonfiction Prize.The complete longlist is:

The winner of the 2018CBCNonfiction Prize will receive $6,000 from theCanada Council for the Arts, have their story published onCBCBooksand attend a writing residency atthe Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity. Four finalists will each receive $1,000 from theCanada Council for the Artsand have their story published onCBCBooks.

Thelonglistwas selected by a team of writers and editors from across Canada.The2018 jury, comprised ofScaachiKoul,GraemeWood andKyoMaclear, will select the finalists and winner from thelonglist.

Theshortlistwill be announced on Sept. 12, 2018. The winner will be revealed on Sept. 18, 2018.

The longlist was selected from more than 2,000 English language-submissions. There were more than 4,000 submissions in English and French.

The 2017 CBC Nonfiction Prize winner was Becky Blake for her story Trust Exercise.

The CBC Literary Prizes have been recognizing Canadian writers since 1979. Past winners include Michael Ondaatje, Carol Shields, Michael Winter and Frances Itani.
