Commuters stay home

Empty TTC train during rush hour(John McGrath)

By Dwight Friesen,CBC News

Dwight FriesenJohn McGrath was CBC's Queens' Park reporter for years. He's used to the bustle of downtown Toronto. This morning he noticed a distinct difference in his morning commute. There were empty seats on his subway train at 8:35 a.m.

John took this photograph on the southbound train at Dupont Station. Usually there wouldn't be room for an extra apple in your lunch bag at this point in the journey. It seems many commuters have decided it's time to abandon downtown Toronto for the duration of the summit.

Metro Morning's Jim Curran reported on lighter than normal traffic volumes as well -- as long as you are looking somewhere other than the major roads around the airport.

Have you noticed your favourite part of Toronto turning into a high-noon scene from a Western? Send in a photo to our flickr group.
