If you walk the marshland near the border of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, you might hear and see the ghosts of Acadian farm life. The village and the surrounding area was called Beaubassin - beautiful basin.

For seventy years - from 1670 to 1750 - Beausbassin was the agricultural centre on the isthmus of Chignecto. The Acadians built elaborate dykes to turn the salt marshes into productive land. French and English soldiers fought here to control the area.

Beaubassin is now a designated historic site. For the past two years, Parks Canada has invited the public to share in an archeological dig. For the Acadian descendents, it is an emotional journey as they imagine the lives of their ancestors. For amateur fans of archeology it is thrilling to discover rare pieces of Canadian history..
