BioBlitz Biodiversity

BioBlitz: the search for biodiversity. How often do we even think about the creatures and plants that live among us? That's the goal of the 3rd annual BioBlitz organized by St. Mary's University in Halifax. The scientists are counting all the species at Crystal Crescent Beach Provincial Park. It's an important way to evaluate the health of any ecosystem.

The researchers don't know yet what they're going to find in the soil, in the water,in the pathways or around the bushes. But they're expecting to find hundreds of species. Everything is going under the microscope.

For the first time the BioBlitz is being held near the water. It's a dynamic habitat but the effects of the Atlantic Ocean can be harsh on this 650 acre property.
