Louise Decker

Her husband insisted the fishing boat was no place for a woman, but Louise Decker convinced him otherwise...despite her small stature and tiny hands.

Louise fished with her husband Phil in their small open boat for 16 years.  They fished out of Lobster Cove, a place now within the boundaries of Gros Morne National Park. Louise later went on to work in the park, and her presence there is every bit as big as the mountain it's named after.  Her stories of being the only woman in a fishery of men have become one of the park's main attractions.
