He's a diesel mechanic, a machinist, a chief marine engineer...but despite his time in engine rooms aboard big vessels, some of his favourite trips on the water have been in his 20 foot motor boat with its make and break engine.

It used to be the sound of outport Newfoundland and coastal Labrador...the putt-putt of the make and break.  And for years now, Max Clarke has been giving those old engines back their voices. He's been collecting and rebuilding make and breaks, in the little shed in his back yard.
