DIY Halloween costumes, whether you're all-thumbs or a craftmaster

Listen, there's still two weeks to get your Halloween costume sorted. Whether that's a ton of time because you were born with a glue gun in your hand or not so much time because you couldn't craft your way out of a wet papier mache bag, we got you.

Here are some very adorable and doable DIY costume ideas, no matter your level of made-it-myself mastery.

Easy

Jailbird

Punny and sweet, this is an easy grab even as a last minute get up. A striped dress (or skirt and shirt combo) and your base is done. Your prison number and birdy wings lock it up.

Strawberry

You can confidently walk into any party in this cute fruit suit DIY design by Kamri. Relatively easy to execute but all her food fashions are on YouTube in a handy video lookbook.

Jellyfish

There are actually three ways to make this one but the white, lacy, umbrella version is the easiest. Who says gelatinous and adorable are mutually exclusive?

Crazy Cactus Lady

Strategically glue some yarn on a green dress and anyone in your field of vision will get stuck on this fun cactus costume from Studio DIY.

Man in Storm

This eye-deceiving classic is pretty self-explanatory. Still, the DIY is a cinch: flip out an umbrella and pin your clothes back strategically (be sure to tape some newspaper scraps to your pants for that literal fashion forward windblown look) and you're ready to weather the seasonal elements.

Intermediate

Ice Cream Cone

Painted popsicle sticks and plenty of tulle turn a white dress into a cute, cold mess. Top with a DIY cardboard cone and you're ready to serve.

Sushi

We think this homage to one of Japan's many tasty offerings by Simple Teee is soy endearing. And, surprise, it's no sew. Felt, a little careful gluing and poly filler turn a white dress and hairband into a yummy costume.

Gumball Machine

Kamri's take on the gumball machine is adorable and doable in equal parts. Fastening multiple multicolor cotton puffs on your tee is the bulk of the work. But as ever, it's all on YouTube for your gluing pleasure.

Popcorn

Another one from Studio DIY too cute and easy not include. The DIY here is actually just scrunched up computer paper, spray painted yellow and glued to a white tee. Get into a red and white striped dress and you'll easily butter up anyone you meet.

Green Toy Soldiers

Unsurprisingly, you will need soooo much green spray paint for this fun toy throwback by Photos by Rikki. But the rest is just picking up a morphsuit and hitting up your local army surplus for boots, fatigues, belts and military accessories. And then painting (a lot) in a ventilated area.

Advanced

Cotton Candy

Though mostly polyester fibre fill and pink spray paint over a shift dress, this very sweet DIY dessert by Aww Sam takes a bit of work. The cute cone hat is red and white cardboard.

Peacock

For this fun and feathery costume from LaurDIY, the real work is in that tulle tutu (but the tutu tutorial is easy to peep on YouTube. This is another no sew one, but you'll def need peacock feathers and glue gun.

Pretty Piata

Filled with sweetness, this pretty piata from Camille Styles does involve an afternoon of glueing crepe streamers to a leotard you don't love. But fashion two party hats done up the same way after that and you're ready to party your candies out.

Taco Belle

If you're game to roll up your DIY sleeves a little bit, this amazing wordplay/cosplay mash up from Fancy Made is worth the work. Felt tacos fashioned to the front of an existing Belle dress really sell this tip of the tortilla to a food franchise icon.

Space Fam Jam

You will need lots and lots of silver metallic spray paint for this very fun alien family costume from Tell, Love and Party (and as many silver and grey clothes and accessories as you abduct). But the finished product will almost certainly be out of this world.
