When Steven travelled to New York last fall, the winter white look was everywhere! So, we're showing you how to design a room using clean, pale hues.

When Steven travelled to New York last fall, the winter white look was everywhere! Using whites in your decor gives off a cozy vibe, while staying tranquil and dreamy. It also reflects tons of light, giving your space a wonderful energy. Plus, white has a huge range BenjaminMoore alone offers over 200 shades of white. Here'show you can design a beautiful room using clean, pale hues.

Begin with monochromatic surfaces

The starting point for our room was this amazing Remington sectional from ELTE. Then, we added in this Root coffee table, using the wood towarm up the room's cool hues. Already, this brings in beautiful variations of tones, with whites, cremes, camels, greys and blushes filling up the space.

Work in different textures

White rooms demand accessorizing. Layering objects of different textures and different variations of white like we did with these mud cloth pillows from Snob Stuff, really helps to pull the room together. Don't be afraid to add some cozy splashes with throws and pillows in fabrics like faux fur, cashmere and linen.

Add personality

Fun touches like these ceramic dogs, marble column and vase bring a nice dose ofcharacter to your room, which is especially needed when you're working with monochromatic hues.

Don't be afraid to get adventurous! Statement pieces, like these beautiful African necklaces from Artifacts, and antiques, like this stunning Egyptian door from The Door Store are great conversation starters.

Bring in matte and reflective surfaces

Matte metallics, like the gold accessories shown above, add a sense of richness to your room, while keeping your decor on-trend. Balance out those shiny, warm toneswith clean glass and lucite, as we did with these armchairs from Artifacts.

Keep things personal with DIY touches

Adding simple creations that you've made at home will help attain a sense of whimsy. These hand-painted gold-dipped logs are a perfect example. Plus, they provide a rustic feel that helps balance out all the clean, pearly whites.

These DIY apple blossoms, which you can make by hot gluing faux flowers to branches or twigs, soften out the stark white design by adding a delicate edge.

Switch things up for spring

To transition your room into the warmer months, throw in blush-coloured accents and swap out heavy fabrics and pillows for lighter ones. You can also add some green to the space with fresh tulips and bowls of green apples.
