When it comes to baby products, companies have been going the all-natural route for well over a decade now, infusing washes, lotions and wipes with only the best botanicals and essential oils. And in Canada, we are super-lucky to be surrounded by some fabulous eco-friendly brands.

To protect my newborn's skin, as well as the environment, I've enlisted a litany of chemical-free products that I have come to love quite quickly. My favourites below.

Tender touch

Soft and sweet smelling (think lavender, chamomile and aloe!), these wipes have helped to keep my daughter's behind clean in the most precarious of situations. And the fact that they are made with 98 percent natural ingredients means I know they are safe for her and the environment.

Live Clean Baby Ultra Soft Wipes, $7.79, well.ca

Wash on

Our little one will be three months in a few weeks, so I have this lush smelling body wash on hold until then (the recommended age from the brand). But I can't wait to try it for its sensitive formula that hydrates skin and hair while it cleans.

Pai Apple + Mallow Blossom Hair & Body Wash, $36, paiskincare.ca

Laundry days

Luckily our babe doesn't seem to be too sensitive to scent or certain soaps, but regardless, we were keen to use an unscented, hypoallergenic laundry detergent for all her cutest little outfits from the start. Bonus points: Eco-Max is made right here in Canada.

Eco-Max 2X Concentrate Hypoallergenic Laundry Wash, $9.99, eco-max.ca

In the thick of it

When our daughter was born her skin was quite dry and flaky. To soothe her dry complexion, we leaned on Consonant's baby body lotion (created in Toronto!), an unscented formula made with zinc oxide, kaolin clay and calendula, perfect for newborns with eczema or skin irritations, like diaper rash.

Consonant Healthy Baby Body Lotion, $27, consonantskincare.com

Soft as a baby's bottom

The saying is true; babies really do have the softest skin. To help our little one fall asleep after her nightly bath, we massage in a little bit of Beautycounter's Baby Soothing Oil, a quick dry formula (no one wants a slippery babe!) consisting of coconut, jojoba and sunflower seed oil, that smells as delicious as it is nourishing.
