Brandon Oakes

Brandon Oakes is a Mohawk from Akwesasne which straddles the Ontario-Quebec-New York border. He has starred in feature films, television and toured extensively throughout North America as a stage actor and dancer.

Most recently Brandon played a leading role in the soon to be released Blood Quantum and Disney movie Little Creek. He is the leading actor in Through Black Spruce, which had its premiere at TIFF 2018, opening the special presentation category. Brandon has worked extensively in television with guest appearances on Bad Blood, Saving Hope, Houdini and Doyle, Arctic Air and others. Feature films also include Rhymes for Young Ghouls, The Saver, A Warriors Heart, The Jingle Dress, A Windigo Tale and Pathfinder. He was awarded Best Supporting Actor at the American Indian Film festival in San Francisco in 2016 for his performance in The Saver.

Brandon is the son of the worlds first woman ironworker - his mother, Patricia, who encouraged him to follow his artistic talents. He was first introduced to the stage as a traditional dancer in native dance theatre troupes that toured North America. A natural storyteller, Brandon pursued acting and attended the Centre for Indigenous Theatre in Toronto and then went on to study contemporary dance and acting at the Banff Centre for the Arts. Theatre credits include Smoke, Signature Theatre, N.Y.; One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest, People Light Theatre, Malvern, Pennsylvania; Palestine, New Mexico, Mark Taper Forum, L.A.; Manahatta, Public Theatre, New York. Tours include Spirit - The Seventh Fire touring the US and China and Tales of an Urban Indian, a one-man show produced by Native Earth Performing Arts which toured throughout Canada.
