Rick Mercer

Award-winning Canadian political satirist, four-time best-selling author, and legendary Canadian television icon, Rick Mercer, began his career in comedy performing and writing in his hometown St Johns, Newfoundland with a series of one-man stage shows. In 1993, his television career took off as one of the creators, performers, and writers on the hit topical weekly show THIS HOUR HAS 22 MINUTES. His 2001 CBC television special, TALKING TO AMERICANS is the highest-rated Canadian comedy special ever. Mercer, who was made an Officer in the Order of Canada in 2015, is the recipient of nearly 30 Gemini Awards and Canadian Screen Awards for his television writing and performance, as well as the prestigious Golden Rose Award at the international Rose dOr Television Festival in Switzerland. He received The John Drainie Award from ACTRA in recognition of his contributions to Canadian broadcasting in 2016, and is the 2019 recipient of the Governor Generals Lifetime Achievement Award.
