CBC RECEIVES FIVE CANADIAN SCREEN AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN DIGITAL STORYTELLING

Mar 29, 2019

CBC took home five Canadian Screen Awards from the Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television at last night’s Gala Honouring Digital Storytelling, co-presented by CBC Gem and the Independent Production Fund. The event was livestreamed across the country via the free CBC Gem streaming service, and recognized Canadian content-makers working at the forefront of the industry, often using innovative techniques. This brings the public broadcaster’s total awards count to 45 Canadian Screen Awards across the first three gala nights.

CBC News was recognized in the category of Best Cross-Platform Project for CBC NEWS: MISSING AND MURDERED: FINDING CLEO, and CBC digital original series won both the Best Program or Series, Fiction, and Non-Fiction categories, honouring HOW TO BUY A BABY and THE ARTISTS: THE PIONEERS BEHIND THE PIXELS, respectively. Mark Little received the Best Writing, Web Program or Series award for GARY AND HIS DEMONS, and Best Supporting Performance, Web Program or Series, was given to Jayne Eastwood for her role in THE WRITERS’ BLOCK.

CBC’s Canadian Screen Award-winning digital original series are available to stream anytime on the free CBC Gem streaming service. CBC Gem is available for free as an app for iOS and Android devices and online at cbcgem.ca, and on television via Apple TV and Google Chromecast.

The 2019 Canadian Screen Awards will be broadcast live on CBC and CBC Gem on Sunday, March 31 at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. AT and 9:30 p.m. NT). Leading up to the broadcast, Canadians can share their thoughts on the nominees with CBC on Twitter @CBC using #CdnScreenAwards.
