IN THE MAKING (8x30) is an immersive journey inside the creative process. The documentary series follows host Sean ONeill across the country and around the world alongside some of Canadas leading artists as they bring new work to life and face pivotal moments of risk and reward.
Each episode follows an artist from across the creative spectrumvisual art, film, music, dance, theatrewith a unique approach to artmaking and something to say about the world. Sean visits artists at home, in studio, backstage, and in the field, giving viewers rare access to intimate creative spaces and inspiring moments of realization.
Artists imagine futures, wrestle with conflicts, and offer alternative ways of seeing ourselves and the world around us. Directed by some of Canadas most innovative voices in documentary film and shot with a mix of hand-held vrit and cinematic visuals, IN THE MAKING explores what it means to move through the world as an artist today.
Season two follows Seventy-five-year-old electronic musician Beverly Glenn-Copeland, connecting with a new generation of fans in Japan; celebrated comic artist Walter Scott, debuting new work in Montreal; JUNO Award and Polaris Music Prize-winner Jeremy Dutcher, reconnecting on the shores of the Wolastoq river in New Brunswick; visual artist Deanna Bowen, returning home to Vancouver for a deeply personal project; artist, writer and professor Ken Lum, preparing a major new sculpture in Philadelphia; choreographer Christopher House, returning to the stage in Toronto and preparing to leave the company hes led for 25 years; Theatre artist Laakkuluk Williamson Bathory, beginning a powerful new collaboration with women artists in Iqaluit; and legendary visual artist Rebecca Belmore, mounting a survey of her lifes work in Saskatoon.
