"To establish continuity with this year's enormously successful show, we felt it was important to give these consummate professionals the green light now to begin creating another great evening," Academy president Howard Koch said in a statement Tuesday.

For February's ceremony, the pairknownfor producing plays and musicals for film, TV and stage were able to boost the Oscar night ratings with their choice of Family Guy creator MacFarlane as host. The Feb. 24 broadcast drew 40.3 million viewers, the highest in the past three years, as well as more of the young demographic Oscar organizersare seeking.

However, the producing pair also filled the broadcast with old-fashioned dance numbers, a plethora ofshow-extending musical performancesand were unable to enliven the usual lame intros by celebrity presenters. Zadan and Meron also approved the ill-advised We Saw Your Boobs skit MacFarlane delivered as part of his introduction.

Asked days after the Oscars whether he would consider hosting again, MacFarlane replied "no way," before adding that it had been fun to have the chance to do so.

The 2014 Academy Awards are set for March 2.
