Arcade Fire to rock U.K.'s Glastonbury Festival

Canadian rock troupe Arcade Fire is set for a headline slot at the U.K.'s 2014 Glastonbury Festival.

The Grammy-winning ensemble, which released its latest chart-topping album Reflektor this fall, revealed the news via Twitter on Thursday morning.

The group posted an image noting a busy week of gigs coming up in late June 2014, with performances scheduled for Rock in Roma (June 23), Villafranca di Verona (June 24), Glastonbury (June 27) and Dublin's Marlay Park (June 29).

Eagle-eyed fans had anticipated that the band might play the open-air, famously muddy Glastonbury upon noticing that the group's North American tour included a significant break from late June through July.

Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler had also hinted at the potential slot recently when a BBC Radio interviewer asked about whether the Montreal-based group would appear at any British festivals.

"Yeah, I hope so," Butler responded, before later adding: "Get your wellies ready!"

British singer Lily Allen also recently revealed that she was set to play the next Glastonbury, which takes place June 25-29 and is already sold out.

Held at Worthy Farm in Somerset, England since 1970, Glastonbury is the largest greenfield festival in the world and draws upwards of 170,000 people for each edition.

Some of the world's best known musicians have headlined the festival, including David Bowie, The Rolling Stones, Youssou N'Dour, Coldplay, The Cure, Jay Z, Radiohead, Paul McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Neil Young, Beyonc and Mumford and Sons.

Montreal-based Arcade Fire previously played one of the festival's smaller stages in 2007.
