George Clooney admits price of political fundraising is 'obscene'

George Clooney might be rooting, and raising gobs of cash, for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but he says he agrees with her opponent on one thing: the amount of money in American politics.

The actor, who held two fundraisers in San Francisco and Los Angeles over the weekend for democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton, explains to NBC's Meet The Press why he's raising huge amounts of money.

George Clooney might be rooting, and raising gobs of cash, for U.S. Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton, but the Hail, Caesaractorsays he agrees with her opponent on one thing: the massive amount of money in American politics.

"I think it's an obscene amount of money," Clooney told the host ofNBC's Meet The Press, Chuck Todd, in an interview Sunday.

Clooneywas met by a small group of protesters from Bernie Sanders's camp Friday eveningwhen the actorattended a priceyfundraising event for Clinton in San Francisco, one of twothis weekend. Sanders has been vocal about the large amounts of donations behind Clinton's and others' campaigns.

The demonstrators were pointing to the fact that attendees paid $33,400 US each for a ticket to be in the same room as Clooney.

Others reportedlypaid upward of $100,000 to snap a selfie with Clinton and Clooney at the event,which took place at the home ofventure capitalistShervinPishevar.

"They're right to protest, they're absolutely right," saidClooney, who stopped brieflyto talk to protesters. "It's ridiculous that we should have this kind of money in politics. I agree."

Clinton earlier told aLos Angeles rally that she would try to get Congress to increase the $7.25-an-hour federal minimum wage, praising California for pledging to raise that number in the state to $15 an hour by 2022.

The tally from both events will likely match, if not surpass, similar fundraisers Clooney held for U.S. President Barack Obamain 2012.
