Canadian actor Christopher Plummer has landed a role in the English-language remake of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

He'll play Henrik Vanger, the aging head of a business empire with a tragic family history in the film, to be directed by David Fincher.

Plummer, who earned an Oscar nomination for playing Tolstoy in The Last Station, stars opposite Daniel Craig as journalist Mikael Blomkvist and Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander.

Salander and Blomkvist attempt to help Vanger solve the mystery of his niece, who went missing 40 years before.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is the first book in the popular Millennium trilogy by late Swedish author Stieg Larsson and a Swedish film adaptation has already met with great acclaim.

Plummer played Prospero in The Tempest during this year's Stratford Shakespeare Festival and will reprise his Tony Award-winning role in Barrymore in Toronto in January.
