Prince song, album sales spike after recording artist's death

Sales of Prince's music have skyrocketed since his death last week. Family and friends of the Grammy-winning artist held a private funeral service over the weekend.

Sales of Prince's music have skyrocketed since the artist's death last week.

According to Nielsen Music, in the three days following his death there were 2.3 million Prince song sales, including nearly 1 million on Thursday.

Sales were led by Purple Rain,followed by When Doves Cry,Little Red Corvetteand Let's Go Crazy.

Albums sales were led by The Very Best Of Prince.

The 57-year-old singer was found dead lastThursday at his Paisley Park compound in suburban Minneapolis.

An autopsy was conducted Friday. Authorities said it could be weeks before the cause of death is released.

Carver County Sheriff Jim Olson said Prince's body, discovered by medical workers in an elevatoron the first floor of his home,had no signs of violence and there was nothing to suggest suicide.

A group of friends, familyand musicians celebrated his life on Saturdayduringa small, private service,after his remains had been cremated.

Friends such as percussionist Sheila E. and bassist Larry Graham were both seen Saturday entering Paisley Park. Prince's sister Tyka Nelson and brother-in-law Maurice Phillips also were seen on the grounds.

A private funeral service at a local church is expected to take place in early May, according to Denny Laufenburger,the mayor ofChanhassen.
