Troubled singer Winehouse checks into rehab

She sang "no, no, no" to rehab in her hit song, but troubled British singer Amy Winehouse has indeed been admitted into a drug rehabilitation facility, Universal Music said Thursday.

Shesang "no, no, no" to rehab in her hit song, but troubled British singer Amy Winehouse has indeed been admitted into a drug rehabilitation facility, Universal Music said Thursday.

"Amy decided to enter the facility today after talks with her record label, management, family and doctors," Universal Music Group said in a statement.

"She has come to understand that she requires specialist treatment to continue her ongoing recovery from drug addiction."

Calling her "the most talented and important musical artist of her generation," the statement also expressed hope that the 24-year-old would "come back to full health and fulfil her incredible potential with the label."

Though widely hailed for her 2006 sophomore album Back to Black and flooded with a variety of musical accolades over the past year, Winehouse has been splashed across headlines inBritain and worldwide for her increasingly erratic behaviour, disheveled appearance, poor performance at recent concerts and substance abuse problem.

As well, her husband Blake Fielder-Civil is being held in police custody as he awaits trial on charges of assault and conspiracy to pervert the course of justice.

On Wednesday, British police confirmed they would investigate a video obtained by tabloid newspaper The Sun that apparently shows Winehouse taking drugs.

Winehouse had been slated to perform Feb. 10 at the upcoming Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, where she will vie in six categories, including best new artist and album of the year.

Though Universal's statement mentioned the cancellation of a performance in France on Saturday, it is unknown whether Winehouse will be able to attend the Grammy gala.
