Ricky Gervais's pointed digs at Hollywood at last year's Golden Globes were not enough to prevent another invitation to host the event.

And Gervais has again accepted the job.The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, host of the annual event, announced through Twitter on Wednesday that the British comedian will take a third turn at hosting the Golden Globes in January.

His one-liners in 2011 took digs at Charlie Sheen, Tim Allen, the film The Tourist and the the HFPA itself.

HFPA president Philip Berk denounced Gervais publicly saying he "definitely crossed the line."

But someone, possibly broadcaster NBC,must have liked The Office star's acerbic style.

A blog post on the HFPA website said, "While many welcome Gervaiss return, not everyone is happy with the decision because last year his blunt one-liners targeting big-name celebrities caused anger and resentment in some quarters. After the show, Gervais dismissed the possibility of coming back for a third time, but he gradually warmed to the idea and last month met with [new] HFPA president Dr. Aida Takla-O'Reilly in Paris to discuss it."

The 69th annual Golden Globe Awards will be held Jan. 15, 2012.
