Vancouver celebrity harassment allegations lead to charges

A man from Abbotsford, B.C., is facing charges in a criminal harassment case involving "a local, well-known celebrity," Vancouver police say.

A man from Abbotsford, B.C., is facing charges in a criminal harassment case involving "alocal, well-knowncelebrity," Vancouver police say.

Police did not name the celebrity on Tuesday, but said the charges were linked to a harassment investigation launched earlier this year.

In July, Vancouverpolice confirmed they wereinvestigating a man who targeted pop star Carly Rae Jepsen, who is from Mission, B.C.

That investigationinvolvedthe unauthorized use of a computer, theft of telecommunications and the criminal harassment ofJepsen, policesaid in July.

At the time, police saidthe criminal investigation was launched after Jepsen's managers contacted police in March, and thata suspect had been identified, but had not been charged.

Unconfirmed reports allege private photos of Jepsen were hacked off the pop star's computer.

Abbotsford man charged

Police announced on Tuesday morning that Christopher David Long, 25, of Abbotsford, surrendered to police on Friday at the Abbotsford court house.

Long has been charged with:

  • Fraudulently obtaining telecommunications services.
  • Unauthorized use of computer.
  • Mischief to data.
  • Identity fraud.
  • Possession of stolen property

He has been released with conditions pending his next court appearance on Jan. 4.

Jepsen soared to fame this summer with the catchy hit Call Me Maybe. The single reached the top of the charts in Canada, the United States, Australia, Ireland and the United Kingdom.
