Theo Fleury, the former NHL player who is skating in Battle of the Blades, will reveal a new talentnext Sunday singer and songwriter.

Fleury has written and recorded a country song, As the Story Goes, for his routine with figure skating partner Jamie Sal.

CBC's Battle of the Blades asks figure skaters to teach retired hockey players how to perform as a figure skating pair. Each week a couple is eliminated from the competition after a live broadcast.

Fleury's autobiography, Playing with Fire, has just been released in paperback and he is touring in support of the book as well as skating for the reality show.

The book alleges sexual abuse at the hands of former coach Graham James. If Fleury wins Battle of the Blades, his choice of charity to take the $100,000 prize is The Men's Project, a counselling service for men and their families.

"Thanks to all who have supported me throughout my process of bringing this chapter of my life to its rightful place. In the past," he wrote in a recent Twitter post about his charity work.

Shae-Lynn Bourne, who is skating with Patrice Brisebois, also contributes her singing talent in aduet with Irish singer Don Mescall on All Over Again.

Corrections

  • An earlier version of this story mistakenly identified the former hockey coach Theo Fleury accuses of sexual abusing him as Graham Jones. The former coach's name is, in fact, Graham James.
