Amazon moves to sell films online

Amazon.com is talking with major media companies about offering unlimited views of movies and old TV shows online, to compete with Apple's iTunes store and Netflix's subscription plan.

Amazon.comis talking with major media companies about offering unlimited views of older TV shows and movies online, in an attempt to stay relevant as consumers flock to Apple's iTunes store and Netflix Inc.'s subscription plan.

The internet retailer has approached several companies, including Viacomand Time Warner, two people familiar with the matter said Tuesday. They requested anonymity because the talks are ongoing.

The negotiations are at an early stage and focus on selling TV shows and movies that areavailable on home video, according to one person.

An Amazon spokesman said the company cannot speculate on the future.
