Bombardier wins $190M train contract

Bombardier's rail division has secured a $190M US contract to sell 30 tram trains to two European train operators.

Bombardier's rail division has secureda $190M US contract to sell 30 tram trains to two European train operators.

Albtal-Verkehrs-Gesellschaft (known as AVG) and Verkehrsbetriebe Karlsruhe GmbH (known as VBK) have ordered 30Flexity tram-trains from the Montreal-based transportationfirm.

The trains will be delivered between August 2011 and September 2013, and the companies have signed an option that could result in as many as 45 more train orders from Bombardier.

The trams will be manufactured at Bombardier'sfacilities in Bautzen, Germany, and Vienna, Austria.

This is the second major contract win for Bombardier in as many days, as onThursday, the company'sairplane unit secured a $730-million US deal to sell 22 of its CRJ700 regional jets to the parent company of American Airlines.

With revenues of $1.9 billion last year, Bombardier now has more than 2,800 trams and light rail vehicles operating or on order in cities across Europe, Australia and North America.
