Greece financial crisis creates uncertainty among diaspora

Tens of thousands of Canadians travel to Greece each year, many of them on trips to connect with familyroots.

With the country teetering on the brink of further financial ruin, however,and ascash withdrawals are limitedfor Greek nationals, manywould-be travellersare reconsidering the visit.

Others, like dual Greek-Canadian citizen Tom Talaboros, are rushing to get back in their homeland's time of need.

Talaborosmoved up a planned trip to arrive in time for Sunday's referendum, a vote that could trigger Greece's exit from the eurozone.

"I'm going to see what's going on there and I'm going to support the euro. We are going to stay in the euro and I'm going to say Yes to the euro," he told CBC's Ioanna Roumeliotis.

Other Canadians preparing to head to Greece told CBC News they are bringing lots of cash in their wallets.
