Justin Trudeau on hand as Amazon announces Toronto-area expansion that will employ 700 people

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau helped Amazon announce the expansion of one of its Canadian warehouse facilities on Thursday, a move that will bring the facility to 700 workers.

The centre, which formally opened in August, currently employs about half that many people.

"This is a really big day forAmazon," the Prime Ministersaid. "Today marks day onein thelaunch of thisnew high tech facility."

Last month, the online retailer announced it plans to offersame-day delivery in select Canadian markets. The new fulfillment centre in Brampton, Ontario will allow the company to move more products out the door, to customers throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

The service is available free to Amazon Prime members for eligible orders over $25, and to non-Prime customers ata cost of $11.99 per order (or $1.99 per pound for heavy items).
