Keith Pelley to leave Rogers to head up European golf tour

Rogers Media says its president will leave the company some time this summer to take a new job as the commissioner of the European Golf Tour, Europe's version of the PGA.

Rogers Media says its president will leave the company some time this summer to take a new job as the commissioner of the European Golf Tour, Europe's version of the PGA.

"Keith has done a tremendous job for the company over the past five years and I'm delighted for him and his family,"the CEO of the parent company Guy Laurence said in a statement.

Pelley joined the telecommunications conglomerate in 2010 and led the Rogers Media unit through some landmark changes, include launching the Shomistreaming video service, the Next Issue digital magazine service, and turning the company into a major sports power with its exclusive deal for NHL rights last year.

He was also previous the head of TSN, an all-sports television network owned by Bell that rivals Rogers' Sportsnet. While at TSN he also headed up the network's coverage of the 2010 and 2012 Olympics, which Bell-owned CTV and TSN had the broadcast rights to.

Prior to that, he was president and CEO of the Toronto Argonauts CFL franchise from 2003 to 2007.

A search for Pelley's successor will begin and details on his exact departure date will be announced later.
